How to Clean A Coffee Maker
Do you clean your coffee maker on a regular basis? If you don’t, its time to change that pattern. Drip coffee makers require at least monthly cleanings to keep your coffee tasting pure and good. By cleaning your coffee maker, you remove hard water deposits, old oils from previously brewed pots, and other nasty things that can ruin the taste of your coffee.
The best, and easiest, way to clean a coffee maker is to use a mixture of 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water. You should mix a full pot of this vinegar and water mixture, pour it in your brewer’s water reservoir, and then turn the coffee maker on and let it run. After the mixture has run entirely through, turn your brewer off and let it cool for around 15 to 20 minutes. At this point, its fine to pour the mixture down the drain. If you’re cleaning a coffee maker that hasn’t been cleaned in awhile, you may want to do this step twice.
After you’ve let your maker cool, rinse the pot out with warm water. After this, fill the water reservoir again and let it run through, however, this time you want to use only plain water, no vinegar. To make sure all the vinegar is gone, repeat the rinsing process with pure water one more time after letting the pot cool for around 15 to 20 minutes.
Above is the correct procedure for cleaning and increasing the lifespan of your coffee maker. Ideally, you should clean your coffee maker on a monthly basis, which will make it last longer and keep your coffee tasting up to its full potential.
